Sooloos digital jukebox

Ignore the hokey name—wow, it's a palindrome!—the Sooloos is a serious piece of audio equipment, able to hold up to 3,000 gigs of music, or enough for 6,000 CDs at the top-quality, uncompressed audio format known as FLAC. But it would just be another fancy hard drive if not for the intuitive, 17-inch touch screen interface, which is housed inside a sleek brushed-aluminum exterior. It's an audio component you'll be happy to put on display—though for twelve grand, it ought to be.

Gossip Girl revealed

Ben Widdicombe has written a slightly spoilerish piece in the New York Daily News about my favourite guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl so don't read on unless you've already seen the show.

I wouldn't wish to spoil your Gossip Girl viewing. Anyway, he reckons that we're going to find out the identity of Gossip Girl in the show. That is, instead of just having Kristen Bell's anonymous narration, we may have Gossip Girl entering the show as a regular character.

A CW publicist has teased us with the following statement: "We don't know where this rumor came from, but invite everyone to check out Monday night repeats to look for clues to Gossip Girl's identity themselves."

Oh, that's just a sneaky excuse to make us want to watch the show all over again until they come up with some new episodes. Then again, I don't really need an excuse to check out the hot and shirtless Chace Crawford again.

Well, as for who the Gossip Girl could be, Widdicombe reckons that it's Serena's little brother Eric van der Woodsen (played by Connor Paolo). Now, I can kinda see this and I like his character so I'd like to see more of him, but the only thing that makes me hesitate is whether or not Eric was allowed a computer during his stay at that 'facility' after his suicide attempt. In fact, thinking about it, I do sorta remember a scene when he was in his room with a laptop, so he could have internet access. Hmm...

PopWatch has gone further and gone through the list of likely suspects and concluded that it's probably the Minority Twins. You know the ones, the Asian and African-American girls who are never apart and always watching from the sidelines. I dunno though, I reckon those two are only in the show to prevent it from being officially the whitest television show ever.Who knows? It could even be Kristen Bell. Her gig at Heroes was only for thirteen episodes so she could be available. Damn, I can't wait for this writers' strike to end, I want me some more Gossip Girl!

Last year’s Vudu was a breakthrough both for what it did (stream digital movies to your TV, minus the buffering) and for how it looked doing it. The XL keeps the clean design and adds IR universal-remote capability, making it a cinch to sync with your home-theater system. More importantly, it comes with a whopping terabyte of storage, for storing the HD films the company will being offering this February. The initial batch will have 70—yes, including Blade:Trinity.

Quantum Of Solace

The first James Bond: Quantum Of Solace images have been released, including character shots of Daniel Craig, Gemma Arterton, Mathieu Amalric, Giancarlo Giannini, Olga Kurylenko, Judi Dench and Jeffrey Wright.

Columbia Pictures even released an official synopsis to Empire Mag: Quantum Of Solace continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (Craig) in Casino Royale.

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Dench) interrogate Mr White (Jesper Christensen) who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organization.

Bond 22: Quantam Of Solice

The 22nd James Bond film now has a title — QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

The title is from one of the short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960. Producer Michael Wilson said Quantum of Solace will have “twice as much action” as 2006’s Casino Royale. HOTTTTT!

Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as James Bond. Olga Kurylenko, who plays Bond girl Camille in the film, said that she’s been working hard preparing for her role.

“I’m doing weapons training and body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting,” she said. “My days are so long, and it’s very physical. She’s going to be very different from the previous Bond girls. She’s a fighter. This girl is going to kick ass. She’s on her own mission and she’s driven by revenge.”

Gemma Arterton, who plays an MI6 agent in the film, said she has already shot her love scenes with Craig.

“I felt like a giggly girl,” she said. “And I felt so young and inexperienced - but I kissed James Bond!”

James Bond: Quantum of Solace is set for a Nov. 7th release.

1979-2008

Heath Ledger: 1979-2008
Excerpt from the article: “The tragedy struck in the midst of an already hectic day in the entertainment industry, as Hollywood reacted to the morning’s announcement of the Oscar nominations and the latest buzz emanating from Sundance. But word spread with lightning speed via cell phones and BlackBerries, and in nearly every case was met with disbelief. One high-ranking studio exec, after receiving an e-mail stating that Ledger was dead, quickly wrote back: ‘What — you mean his career?’ Charlize Theron learned the news while walking a red carpet at Sundance. Josh Hartnett was blindsided at a Sundance Q&A by a question about Ledger’s death; he struggled to answer even as the crowd jeered the man who had asked it. The passing of an actor in his prime — he earned his first Oscar nomination at age 26 for Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain and was just months away from reinventing the Joker in the highly anticipated Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight — seemed too shocking to absorb at first, while at the same time painfully familiar. Within minutes of the story breaking, some 300 entertainment reporters, cameramen, photographers, and fans began to descend on Ledger’s building, creating a tableau that resembled a grisly perversion of a movie premiere. Bystanders snapped photos on cellphones and paparazzi climbed the fire escape of the building across the street hoping for shots into Ledger’s fourth-floor loft. ‘It’s crazy — he was so young,’ said one stunned observer.”

An autopsy on Heath Ledger was inconclusive and more tests are needed, reports The Associated Press.

10 days are needed to complete the investigation, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner.

Just yesterday, the 28-year-old actor was found dead with sleeping pills nearby.

Carla Williams, the mother of Heath’s former fiancee Michelle Williams, was spotted in Brooklyn earlier this morning. She was seen leaving the apartment that Michelle shared with Heath and their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, before the couple separated this past September.

New evidence has surfaced in the shocking death of Heath Ledger, who was found dead inside his SoHo apartment on Tuesday afternoon.

Police recovered several drug packets containing an unknown substance and a $20 bill with narcotic residue on it, reports CBS.

This is in addition to the prescription anxiety drugs Valium and Zoloft and prescription sleeping medication Ambien that were found in the apartment. All of these items were listed on the official police report from the scene.

It is not clear whether these items belonged to Heath or whether he even actually ingested them.

Production on Heath Ledger’s latest fantasy adventure movie, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, was shut down hours after news broke of the actor’s untimely death.

“I just got the call [Tuesday] saying everyone was being let go,” an on-set source in Vancouver tells Us Weekly. “We were supposed to start this weekend, but obviously they fired everyone today. They don’t know yet what they are doing with the footage that was already shot. Right now, everyone is in complete shock and can’t even speak.”

Heath was last photographed on set dressed in a clown costume on Saturday.
Rest in peace … Heath … Where ever you are… know that you will be mourned and pride will conquer sorrow, pride in the fact that you owned your craft, loved your daughter and we are honored to have witnessed your life.

Ambassador Beckham

Soccer star and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham recently completed a visit to Sierra Leone, where he traveled with UNICEF representatives to focus attention on the issue of child survival.

“We can’t turn a blind eye to the tens of thousands of young children who die every day in the developing world mostly from causes that are preventable,” Becks said.

The father-of-three took the time to play soccer with local children and gave them autographed soccer balls.

Added David, “In Sierra Leone, one in four children dies before reaching their fifth birthday. It’s shocking and tragic, especially when the solutions are simple - things like vaccinations against measles or using a mosquito net to reduce the chance of getting malaria. Saving these children’s lives is a top priority for UNICEF and as an ambassador I hope I can help to draw attention to this issue across the world.”

On one point, David met with Foday, a five-year-old boy who had swallowed a chemical that scarred his throat so severely that he was prevented from eating solid food for months. Foday held Beckham’s hand and joined him on a walk through the facility.

“Surely there is no reward more precious than saving the life of a child?” Beckham said. “Their futures remain in our hands.”

Heath Ledger is dead !!!

Heath Ledger has been found dead in his SoHo apartment in New York City.
He was found in his bed by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET, reportedly surrounded by pills.
The 28-year-old actor has a 2-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, with former fiancee Michelle Williams.
Just this past weekend, Heath was in London filming the Terry Gilliam-directed movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The last pictures of Heath were taken this past Saturday–he was dressed in a clown costume.
The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for his role as gay cowboy Ennis in Brokeback Mountain. He also finished filming his role as The Joker in the new Batman film, The Dark Knight.
UPDATE 1: According to The New York Times, “At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said pills were found near the body.”
UPDATE 2: Heath was found in his bed, naked and face down. There were prescription bottles left uncovered near the deceased–prescription sleeping medication.

Here are the first celebrity reactions of Heath Ledger’s death:
“What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family.” — Nicole Kidman
“I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.” — Mel Gibson
“He is one of my favorite actors. His abilities are rare…it’s a tremendous loss. It’s hard to be here celebrating Australia under these circumstances.” — John Travolta
“It was with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Heath Ledger. It is tragic that we have lost one of our nation’s finest actors in the prime of his life. Heath Ledger’s diverse and challenging roles will be remembered as some of the great performances by an Australian actor.” — Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia
“The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.” — Statement by Alan Horn, President and COO of Warner Bros. and Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group

Heath Ledger’s family is reeling after learning of the actor’s death from the media today, reports In Touch.
Family friend and private investigator Paul Barresi spoke to Heath’s uncle Neil Bell today. Bell is in his early 60s and was, Heath’s personal assistant, confidante and mentor.
“The last thing that Heath would want to do is throw it all away. He was very happy living in New York, ” Bell told Barresi. “His mother and father (in Australia) heard of his death on the news. We are all devastated. The whole family is devastated over his death, and more so over having to learn of his death from the media.”
Bell recalled, “Ever since Heath was a little boy, all he ever dreamt of was becoming an actor. Heath knew at a very young age that acting was his destiny and purpose.”

Heath Ledger’s father Kim released the following statement with regards to the 28-year-old actor’s tragic death Tuesday in New York:
“Heath’s family confirms the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.
“We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.
“He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our family’s need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.”

Michelle Williams‘ father Larry told Australia’s The Daily Telegraph that Heath Ledger’s death has left his family broken hearted.
Mr. Williams said, “I think [poet] Tennyson got it right in the poem when he described someone as having died at a young age but burning the candles at both ends, and oh what a beautiful flame he made, that was Heath, what a beautiful flame he made and a great talent.
“My heart goes out to everyone in his family and my family. The saddest thing is his 2-year-old daughter [Matilda] whom he just loved dearly.”

He showed great skill in crafting leather and suede. A suede duffel lined in astrakhan and a closing coat of lustrous monkey fur evoked the willful, rockin’ excess of alt-Cavalli. Now that their romance is no longer Hollywood’s worst-kept secret, Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia could be moving in together, reports In Touch.
The Heroes hottie lives with her family in a nice but far from glamorous West Hollywood condo. But it hasn’t been easy!
Hayden, 18, has even been staying over with co-star Kristen Bell “as a way to get some space,” says a friend.
So she recently started shopping for a new home, telling a pal that she wants to live with Milo, 30.
“Hayden and Milo can’t deny that they’re a couple,” the insider explains. “Now that their secret is out, they figure they might as well do what they want — even move in together.”
Hayden was seen checking out homes in West Hollywood on January 7. “Hayden just started looking for a house,” an insider says.

Plotline via Wiki: Decorated Iraq war hero Sgt. Brandon King (Phillippe) makes a celebrated return to his small Texas hometown following his tour of duty. He tries to resume the life he left behind with the help and support of his family and his best friend, Steve Shriver (Tatum), who served with him in Iraq. Along with their other war buddies, Brandon and Steve try to make peace with civilian life. Then, against Brandon’s will, the Army orders him back to duty in Iraq using the “stop-loss” procedure, which upends his world. Lanvin - Spring 2008 (RTW)

The start of the show cemented the possibility that Alber Elbaz will not be showing color this season, with heavy, worn, wooden planks assembled as a runway and models showcasing brilliantly draped, goddess, gowns, one was satisfied, however color burst on to the faded ramp creating a stir, unexpected and completely stark to the gowns seen just a moment ago, flapper inspired mini dresses in deep shades of chocolate brown, coral and canary yellow followed along with baby-doll dresses with ruffled necklines and bejeweled accents. Each piece showcased a different style and this dazzling inconsistency showcased a variety of startling gowns in billowing proportions creating “a drape caught in the wind” effect. Elbaz enhanced pieces with a touch of plumage and accessorized his creations with spectacular jeweled necklaces and slim belts. Elbaz’s show emerged as “the” show of spring 08 by capturing the essence of spring through color, having the “must have accessories of 08” and providing the general with wearable extremes.

Pacemaker

It won’t help your heart, but this Pacemaker will cure the back pain of mobile DJs everywhere, since it lets them pack the equivalent of turntables, a mixer, and music into a pocket. The PSP-sized unit has a crossfader and pitch control for beat mixing, and the 120-gig hard drive (which works with Mac, PC, and most digital formats) means you don’t even need your iPod if you want to hijack the sound system at a party—though, frankly, that’s not always the best move if you want to be invited back.

Lipstick Jungle another S&tC?

Just one month after the launch of ABC's Darren Starr-produced "Cashmere Mafia," Starr's partner on the critically-acclaimed HBO classic "Sex and the City" Candace Bushnell's novel "Lipstick Jungle" will serve as a basis for yet another female-centric Big Apple-set dramedy. But have the viewers had enough?According to an official press release from NBC, "Lipstick Jungle," which premieres in "ER's" timeslot on Thursday, February 7 after an all-new "Celebrity Apprentice," follows "three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game."My main concern with "Cashmere Mafia," which I seemed to have slightly warmed up to in the show's second hour, is that I continue not to see anything new that the series has brought to a format so well-established by the Sarah Jessica Parker-fronted comedy...

S.M.G is Blue

Sarah Michelle Gellar adds a splash of color to the red carpet in a blue column dress with gold knit trim at the Los Angeles premiere of The Air I Breathe held at Hollywood’s ArcLight Theatre on Tuseday.
The 30-year-old actress costars in the film with Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Kevin Bacon, Emile Hirsch, Kelly Hu, John Cho and Andy Garcia.
The concept of the film is based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones - Happiness (Whitaker), Pleasure (Fraser), Sorrow (Gellar) and Love (Bacon). The proverb speaks of these emotions, not as isolated fragments of feelings, but as elements that make up the whole of the human existence. Each of the four main protagonists is based on one of the four emotions; and like the proverb their paths are inextricably linked to each other.
The Air I Breathe opens in limited release next Friday, Jan. 25.

South Beach's new members-only Sex &...—ellipsis theirs—is the Soho House of sex clubs, right down to the questionably low annual fee ($100). For that, patrons get fingerprint-recognition entry to the mirror-heavy, black-walled location. It sounds very Eyes Wide Shut, but the store only sells things to help you get it on elsewhere. Each of the 11 rooms is assigned one specialty (like lingerie or booze), and the place even offers female-only "seduction training" (striptease, pole-dancing lessons). Versace - Fall 2008 Mens

Versace drew inspiration from the works of cult Art Deco artist Tamara de Lempicka and thus created a line filled with dark & dramatic pieces. Pasty male models raced the ramp in spectacularly, elongated coats, sharp suits, and decadent little add-ons. The clothes showcased dramatic, yet sleek proportions and a color palette of deep blues, faded plums and somber purples were glamorized with the tiniest bit of midnight shimmer. A monk's habit collided with a duffel coat produced one of fall 2008's must-haves. Another trend observed had to be the monochromatic evening look (black tux, black shirt, black bow tie) spectacularly drowned under a huge black officer's coat.

iRiver Aplayer

How thin is iRiver's forthcoming Aplayer? Well, the tube containing the headphone jack is wider than the player’s body. It's also wireless (well, sort of): It plugs directly into your computer's USB port for quick file transfer. And, despite being way smaller than a Nano (which almost looks overdesigned in comparison), it also features an FM tuner. Launching any kind of iPod competitor is a ballsy move these days, but with the Aplayer, these guys clearly brought their A-game.

On the paparazzo who took the pictures of him shirtless and Vanessa in a bikini: “The photographer left me a note with a disc of all the pictures, and on the note it said, ‘Thanks for the Range Rover!’”
On his pissed off neighbors at his apartment complex: “It annoys my neighbors that the paparazzi take all the parking spots.”
On Seventeen being created as a star vehicle for him: “It’s weird but I don’t feel like I deserve any of the attention. There’s really nothing but one audition for a Disney Channel movie that separates me from 2,000 other brown-haired, blue-eyed guys in L.A., you know?”

Dolce & Gabbana - Fall 2008

Dolce and Gabbana truly created a collection that signifies winter opulence, this being the season for velvets, knits and wool. There was a sense of excess with enlarged cuts, overbearing coats and chunky jumpers. Sheepskin was “big” for Dolce’s men … literally, and scarves wrapped one to many times added that “loose-comfy” feel the show embodied. The high leather boots, velvet suits, flat page boy caps and luxurious duffels were some of the highlights in a show filled with coffee, navy and charcoal grey colored creations.

this strike is killing me!

They screwed "The Golden Globes" and now "The Oscars" ... Just Read ... ahhhhh!!! pay the writers already!!!
"A day after the writers strike pulled the rug out from under the Golden Globe Awards, Oscar organizers said Tuesday that preparations for the biggest night on Hollywood's calendar are already behind schedule.
The 80th annual Academy Awards are set to take place in Hollywood on Feb. 24, but not a single bon mot has been written yet. The Writers Guild of America has been on strike since Nov. 5, and there is no end in sight, a potentially calamitous situation for the Oscars.
"I'm not going to cite odds, but our hope is we can work something out or that the strike is resolved in time," said Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
"The major change from last year," he said, "is that in a normal year, we'd have assembled a staff of writers, and they would have been working on the show for more than a month."
Following that schedule, writing for this year's show would kick into high gear after the Oscar nominations are announced Jan. 22."

Keira Knightley poses in Denim

Keira Knightley strikes a pose for the upcoming issue of W magazine, on newsstands Jan. 22.
WHAT DO YOU THINK of her denim number — PERFECTLY PLACED or PERFECTLY UGLY?

Spoken in true Chandler Bing-fashion, “Could they BE any hotter?”
Keira Knightley and James McAvoy are not only featured on this week’s cover of Entertainment Weekly, the Atonement costars are heating up the pages of W Magazine in their February 2008 issue. Interview snippets below!
Keira on the things written about her in years past including anorexia and breaking the heart of her ex-boyfriend, model Jamie Dornan: “It’s like having piles of s— put on your head. As a teenager you put enough on yourself. You’re a spotty emotional wreck whose body is changing, and you’re just not equipped to deal with that sort of thing.”
James (half kidding) on feeling a bit more pressure acting. “I won’t lie and say that I’m completely unfazed by it all. I am fazed by it all. I want the movie to do really well, and I want it to win lots of Oscars and BAFTAs, and I want it to win the adulation of every single member of the human race. But at the same time I would hate to think that any of us should feel any less proud simply because it didn’t garner lots of awards. So it’s a strange conflict. There’s a part of me that wants to forget all of these things, and there’s a part of me that can’t.”
Keira on growing up fast for her acting career, but not in real-life: “From a very young age I realized that you didn’t get parts if you acted like a child. So even at seven I remember picking a way to behave, a way that worked. Though in my personal life I don’t think I’m particularly mature. I don’t particularly want to be mature! [My London apartment] always looked very transient. We were sitting on folding chairs.”
James on working with Keira: “She has smelly feet! I’m just kidding. Please don’t put that in.”

“I wouldn’t have done this job if I didn’t know we’d win Oscars,” James jokingly said during the interview.
Atonement is in theaters now. Go see it!
The Hollywood Reporter: “It ranks with the best novel adaptations of recent times.”
Variety: “Rarely has a book sprung so vividly to life, but also worked so enthrallingly in pure movie terms.”

the Bloom touch

Orlando Bloom wears flower garlands and a red “tikka” mark on his forehead (local symbols of welcome) while visiting ethnic Tharu children and women at the Sayapatri Community Organization in the village of Dibyanagar in Chitwan district, Nepal.
In his role as an international ambassador for the charity UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), Orlando, 30, toured UNICEF-supported programs in the country’s western region November 30 - December 9, 2007, meeting with UNICEF staff, health facilitators and educators, as well as women’s and other community groups.
Nepal is still recovering from a decade-long civil war that left 13,000 people dead, hampered the delivery of basic services and restricted development of the nation. Malnutrition is the underlying cause of more than 60 per cent of child deaths in Nepal; an estimated 51 per cent of children under the age of five stunted in growth and 48 per cent considerably underweight. However, maternal mortality has significantly reduced from an estimated 539 deaths per 100,000 births in 1996 to 281 maternal deaths per 100,000 births in 2006. Child deaths are also on the decline, putting Nepal on track to reach Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 (the reduction of under-five child mortality and improved maternal health).

Depp Stoned!

Johnny Depp shows a little skin on the latest cover of Rolling Stone. Interview highlights below!
What was the first song you could play through? Every kid with a guitar at that time, the first things that came up were almost always “Smoke on the Water,” obviously, and “25 or 6 to 4,” by Chicago. But the first song I played all the way through must have been “Stairway to Heaven.” I remember getting through the fingerpicking and just cursing Jimmy Page.
What was your first band? When I was about thirteen, I got together with some other kids in the neighborhood. This one guy had a bass, we knew a guy who had a PA system, we made our own lights. It was really ramshackle and great. We’d play at people’s backyard parties. Everything from the Beatles to Led Zeppelin to Cheap Trick to Devo — and “Johnny B. Goode” was the closer.
You’ve got that wistful look in your eyes. You’re thirteen years old and you’re playing rock & roll. Loud. Poorly. But somebody’s letting you do it in their back yard. And it was absolute perfection. It was freedom. Right off the bat, there was no question: I had found my future.

On transitioning from jeans-and-flip-flops teenager to glamorous Hollywood actress: “I’ve only recently been able to try out a bunch of different styles without feeling like I’m dressing beyond my age. On the show, I spend most of my time in a cheerleading uniform, so in real life I like to have a lot more fun with my clothes.”

Lost 08!

SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!

Lost star Matthew Fox dishes the dirt on the upcoming four season of this hit ABC show in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on newsstands Monday).
On the 8th episode of Lost this season: “There’s going to be some huge mind-blowing (stuff). Jack gets people off that island, [and] suddenly he and the other people are very well known— it becomes this massive story because everybody thought that every person on this plane was lost…. Who are they? What is everybody else doing? Jack’s mission was to get all of them off. It’s the overriding force behind him. So, the fact that he ends up getting off and doesn’t get that accomplished—I’m very curious to find out how that all goes down…. If I start giving you words about what I think it’s really about, I’m going to be honing in on some stuff that I’m not sure I’m authorized to talk about. A truck might pull up and a bunch of dudes in suits get out and mow us down with Uzis.”
On this season dealing with time travel and other supernatural elements: Really fascinating stuff. Last year, we find out Jack and Kate are off the island. How the f— did that happen? And why does he want to go back? In answering those questions, you have to start addressing the bigger, epic scope of the show. In doing that, you’re going to get into questions about the show that the audience is just dying to start finding out. What is this island? Where is this island? When is this island?

From Russia with lather!

Arthur Babadzhanov based the design of Reamir & Co. on the barbershop his dad ran back in the U.S.S.R.—not exactly a haven for fussy haircuts—and his debut line of grooming products is similarly old-school, emphasizing substance over gimmick. The collection features both shampoo and shave stuff, including a cream ($16) that smells good without being girlie—impressive, considering it's made in part from marigold oil (we assume that bit wasn't Soviet-inspired). The timing's decent, too—we can think of at least two guys in need of a shave. Reamir & Co. grooming products, $14-$22, 303 Columbus Ave., NYC, (212) 877-4255, also available at reamir.com

Gossip Girl Rundown: Episode 12, "School Lies"

While last night's Gossip Girl advertised itself as the first of a two-part episode, there's really only one plot line that remains in limbo: Blair-Chuck-Nate (aka, your favorite love triangle of the year). Well, that and the mystery of whatever happened to little Jenny Humphrey. That said, there are no complaints here about "School Lies" other than I'm not sure I like the characters that I'm supposed to.

OK, so Nate's been getting hotter and hotter, right? I like to think that he was filming this episode around the time that Chace Crawford himself started to become a stud in Hollywood (dating Carrie Underwood, etc.) and that confidence is showing up on screen. He looks so much more like a dashing man than a wimpy boy. Not to mention that his character is about a billion times less spineless these days. I'm just wondering what he'll do when he inevitably finds out about Blair and Chuck . . .
I went from not caring at all about the parent drama to almost liking it more than the stuff with the kids. Out of nowhere, the Bart-Lily-Rufus plot is the best thing about the show (don't worry, no spoilers until after the jump).
Want their clothes, and their hair. Anyone else surprised that Serena went with a classic one-piece bathing suit for the illicit pool party?

Ugh, Vanessa is the worst. I mean, I know that she is supposed to be subversive and super cool and not playing into all the prep school nonsense with her artsy self, but she just bugs the hell out of me. I'm glad she gave Blair the tape but surprised that she accepted Blair paying her year's rent in return (even if Vanessa wasn't expecting it to happen). And I get that making a foundation to help fight youth genital herpes in Chuck's name is funny and all . . . but she's just so self-righteous. At least she doesn't seem to be trying to break up Serena and Dan.
Speaking of which, Dan himself was a little much last night. He's still a puppy dog for Serena, but he just can't seem to have a good time. Also, even if it did end up being Bart Bass who saved Serena's ass, Dan didn't have to be so demeaning to Serena, who legitimately thought she convinced the head mistress of her merits.
Minor point: Is there any way that the key to the pool at an upscale prep school in Manhattan is an old skeleton key on a velvet rope? Come on now, at least give us a giant janitorial key chain. Just saying.
Sigh, and then there are the parents. I'm legitimately conflicted about the Rufus-Lily-Bart situation. While it's a little ridiculous that Serena demands that her mom choose Bart (against her heart's desires), that's the thing about being in high school love — you think that it means everything and could be forever. That being said, I totally cheered at the moment when Lily called Rufus and told him she wanted to give it a try. Lily has done a total 180 since the beginning of the season. I love her, and that last moment was heartbreaking. My issue is, why does she have to choose any of them? Why can't Lily just be single a little while longer to look for someone who isn't Bart and isn't Rufus either?
Kinda happy to see Blair and Nate together again at the end . . . see my note in the beginning of this rundown about Nate's hotness.

What did you think about last night's episode? Is Chuck really in love with Blair or just taunting her? How will Nate find out? Do Dan and Serena bug anyone else besides me? Where is Jenny? What should Lily have done with Serena's request? Sad that there's only one episode left! Boo!

On her initial thoughts about a winter wedding: “I don’t think either one of us was thinking a Christmas wedding. Originally it was because I only get two weeks a year for my Christmas vacation… but then we really got excited about it.”
On choosing to wed in Utah’s Deer Valley where Josh had vacationed with his family in his younger years.: “We wanted to do it in a place that felt like a winter wonderland. We incorporated lots of big evergreens in the reception with twinkle lights and Christmas decorations.”
On how it feels to be married: “We’re elated! We have never lived together.” (Josh added: “We don’t even sleep in the same bed when family is around!”)
On how marriage will change things: “This new house means now we are in this together. It means compromise on style, taste and how each one of us lives, how we don’t like to live and how we’re going to work it all out. It’s going to be an amazing place to start our lives together and start a family.”
On how soon kids are coming: “I’d like to start talking children seriously in the next year but Josh feels more like two years, so we’ll probably do a year and a half.” (Josh added: “My view is, let’s take it one day and one child at a time!”)
