Cannes 08 :: 14th & 15th May
Eva Longoria Parker (in Atelier Versace) joins Indian actress Aishwarya Rai and French actress Rachida Brakni at the opening night ceremony and premiere of the film, Cate Blanchett strikes a fierce pose in Armani Prive during the opening ceremony and the screening of Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles‘ film Blindness at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival on Wendesday in Cannes, France.
The 61st edition of Cannes, whose jury is led by Sean Penn, has a strong Latin American contingent, with Brazil’s twice Oscar-nominated Fernando Meirelles opening the festival with his philosophical thriller, Blindness. Blindness is based on a book by Nobel winner Jose Saramago of Portugal and raises questions about human nature and the fragility of society.
“It’s as if civilization was built on a thin layer of ice that could crack at any moment,” director Fernando Meirelles said at a news conference. “It’s a metaphor on all the ills of the 20th century.”
Other pictures include Eva, 33, the day before at the opening dinner of Cannes Film Festival and shopping ‘Mercedia’ shoes on Rue de Antibes.
