Alexander the review + history lesson
well i am willing to say that i didn't watch Alexander before because it was slandered by all those around me and i thought it best not to bother wasting my time but yesterday i finally said what the hae and sat down to watch 'the great' in action and i must say it wasn't bad at all here are some the points i found interesting:
- Alexander is shown as a human not like a godlike thing
- Angie over did the accent
- Colin didn't capture me
- Jared leto's performance was the best
- brilliant sets a feast to the eyes
- true to history with exact quotes
- concentrates more on Alexander's relationships, than the battles
- there are many bisexual elements found in the movie which i thought was necessary to develop the relationships Alexander had, and the general out look on ... well sex during those times.
- it was a bit too long
- Costumes were great
- Roxane was captivating ( Rosario Dawson)
because the movie was so close to the actual events as such i later ( after some wikipediaing ) found out a few things that i was surprised to learn about Alexander.
- Alexander took 2 wives Roxana (from modern day Afghanistan), daughter of a minor noble and Stateira, a Persian princess and daughter of Darius III of Persia.
- Alexander was also intimately linked with his life long friend Hephaestion and then a persian male concubine Bagoas .
- Roxana and her son were protected by Alexander's mother, Olympias after Alexander's death.
- Alexander honoured the sacred tomb of his hero Achilles and Hephaestion that of Achilles close friend, Patroclus , Hephaestion and Alexander had a simmilar kind of relationship (i.e. Achilles and Patroclus - great friends and lovers).
