"Gossip Girl" - the review

“Gossip Girl”, as you now know, is the hottest thing on TV (lets hope it stays that way). What makes it great? Well it has all that a person, who needs to be entertained, requires, all the classic elements of teen melodrama are evident and “Gossip Girl” provides viewing essentials such as; seduction, cat fights, sex, the overwhelming complication of the all powerful cliques and off course gossip. Described as one of TV’s “latest guilty pleasure” one can be assured that there are a lot of eye candy moments, the people who will be delivering these tasty tit-bits are the screwed up , misunderstood, kids of New York’s trendy, Upper East side they include:
o using the alias ‘Gossip Girl’ Kirsten Bell : The anonymous, all knowing narrator, blogging away the scandals of her peers.
o Blake Lively 'Serena van der Woodsen’: The misunderstood, innocent, damsel with a secret (blonde - well duh!)
o Leighton Meester 'Blair Waldorf’: The dark haired, mean girl who, obviously was once, the best friend of the “blonde one” and has a nasty grip on our damsel’s love interest.
o Nicole Fiscella 'Isabel Coates' & Nan Zhang 'Katy Farkas' : Following the rule that all mean girls must group in the order of 3 , our dark haired femme fatal is joined by 2 conspirators who provide much needed moral support .
o Taylor Momsen 'Jenny Humphrey' : No teen drama would be complete without the “virgin freshmen” who is dying to get into the inner circle.

now we move on to the boys …

o Chace Crawford 'Nate Archibald' : We naturally must have the wealthy but confused, excruciatingly good looking, but deserves a slap, lead.
o Penn Badgley 'Dan Humphrey' : The poor boy, invisible to the eyes of the privileged & trendy, who harbors a crush on our unapproachable blonde.
o Ed Westwick 'Chuck Bass' : and finally we have the Casanova, bad boy who owns half the world, knows our damsel's secret and is all out to milk it!

All these characters are perfectly placed in the paradoxical - glamorous/blurry world of New York. The city it self, is a major character, influencing it habitants to act and be a certain way; fashion rules the pointless lives of socialite mothers, scanning their unaware daughters with an eye that measures them with the punitive standards, set, unfortunately by the gods and goddess of the ramp, food: from eating to not (a-hem), NY's craze with sushi is clearly shown in the pilot, a perfect setting for the “make-up or break-up” dinners, the cityscape sets the scene, with vibrant, turbulent clubs to calm, steaming, streets that evoke emotions that cannot be suppressed.

On the whole “Gossip Girl” assures bored teenagers (like ourselves) that we will be entertained… with an explosive pilot, let’s hope that the girls keep fighting, the boys remain confused and the mean get nasty; all in the name of good TV!
