Dolce & Gabbana - spring 2009
There were many interesting themes that Dolce & Gabbana presented for their Spring 09 collection and in many ways they paved the path for the season to come in men’s wear with exciting new concepts and trends that may be deemed the “new frontier” in men’s wear.
Who said men can’t wear patterns? The dynamic duo included shiny seersucker, whimsical polka dots, traditional pinstripe and bold diagonal stripes in their mainly monochrome collection. Apart from the daring inclusion of patterns, The Duo in a radical move combined the comfort of loungewear with the stylings of formal attire: lounge pants coupled with crisp jackets and blazers, trousers with drawstrings, formal shorts, if there’s such a thing and opulent robes could easily be labeled “Slouchy chic”. In contrast to the billowing excess of the trousers quite a few shirts sported an extreme slim fit that demands a chiseled torso, some even sported patterned cuffs and collars tied together with those ever present skinny ties. As the show came to a close and the last suit accented with piping made its exit, graphic prints of oriental flora & fauna adorning robes, shirts, shorts and even blazers graced the runway followed by the infamous Naomi Campbell in a lacey bra, shorts and a robe.
