Emanuel Ungaro – spring 2007 (RTW)
It was Peter Dundas’ second season at the fashion house and this time he created a collection that brought about stark opinions, as both ‘front rows’ and ‘fashionistas’ either loved it, or hated it. Although this was the response, one must keep in mind that Peter, freshly arrived from the ‘house of Italian bling’ – Roberto Cavalli, thus it's aesthetics, that deeply influenced Peter, brought about a collection that showcased an extreme color palette, and embraced the shimmer of glitter, with more than one piece dipped in sparkle. Electric blues, acid greens and fuchsias ruled the ramp with short baby doll dress, encrusted with sequined, incest motifs and one in particular adorned grey lips as a recurring pattern. The collection on the whole seemed to embrace the body of a power women, but a certain amount of volume was poured in to particular pieces that once again pushed the norms of extreme. Skirt suits, scrolled peplum jackets with mixed polka dots, flowers, and loose tops touched with gold leaf, were predominant statements made on the Ungaro runway. The highlight of the show was the parade of georgette gowns in the most exotic colors and drapes which almost redeemed Peter, in the minds of the tasteful, who other wise would have termed his collection fit only for the less discerning nouveau rich.
